Corey dei Trivium, intervistato dalla Roadrunner:
1. Hey Corey, what do you hope will happen for Trivium this year ?
We got a new record coming out later this year so we all are very excited about that coming out. Also lots of tours coming up so we are hoping things to just keep building and getting bigger and better !
2. How do you guys plan to raise the bar on 'Crusades' after everything you've accomplished with 'Ascendancy'?
We all have improved as musicians and we are growing as a band so we are just writing stronger material... so we are going to take what we did on ascendancy and expand on our sound and make a pure ass kicking metal record.
3. I've heard you were into guns and roses before you really got into metal, have they influenced your songwriting at all do you think? p.s. for the love of god don't do something like November rain and sell out.
Gnr was the first band I ever heard so it got me into the hard rock/metal genre they didn't influence me songwriting wise they were more of a blues based rock band I was more influenced by the metallica/megadeth side of things.. November rain is a great song! none of us can play piano so there isn't a way to write a song like that... but I am a big fan of the epic big orchestrated songs gnr did on the UYI 1/2 record ...
4. Do you think metallica sold out with the black album and lost their sound from then on? you guys say you want to be bigger than metallica would you ever do what they did down the line?
I don't think they sold out... they just wanted to do something different. just cause the songs are accessible and easier for people to understand and get into doesn't mean they sold out... the point of that record wasn't to make a shitload of money.. it could of flopped you never know when doing a album how its going to do... we just write music we want to play and would want to listen to if we were a fan... later on in our career sometimes bands change things up to make things fresh for them and keep the fire for what they love.... working the same job everyday and doing the exact same thing gets really fuckin' boring so I think that's why some bands down the road do something to mix things up..
5. What made you pick up the guitar and start playing and how long ago was that?
I picked up the guitar when I was 14 so that was about 8 years ago and I picked up the guitar cause I wanted to learn how to play metallica riffs and stuff like that.
6. In terms of metal bands Trivium are quite young, especially Matt, so what is it like for yourself and Trivium to tour with other older metal bands? P.S. Cant wait for the new album!
It's no problem at all... we get along with the older bands better then the younger ones. They are all very nice and cool to us and we all hang out. The older bands who have been around longer then us usually look out for us and are class acts!
7. What is your favorite song off of Ascendancy and Ember To Inferno and Why?
Man that is a tough one ..... Ascendancy would have to be flies cause that is the first tune I helped write in the band so it has a special meaning. Ember would have to be probably the title track just the chorus is simple and sticks in your head.
8. Being a brilliant guitarist in a brilliant band what actual bands inspired you the most?
Bands that inspired me were like metallica, megadeth, pantera, iron maiden.
9. What is your favourite solo ever?
Favourite solo, that's a tough one... either tornado of souls by megadeth or floods/ cemetary gates pantera
10. Whats the most weirdest thing you have had thrown on stage?
Nothing to crazy , a blow up alien with trivium written all over it was different... other then that its allot of flags, and shoes end on stage that come flying off the crowd surfers haha
11. Hi Corey. what's the craziest thing a fan has done for you?
I don't know of anything anyone has done that has been crazy... people getting trivium tattoos or our signatures on them I wouldn't say is crazy but shows the most dedication to the band! inked for life.
12. What's the next album gonna be like? has your style changed at all?
It sounds like TRIVIUM its just more thrashed.... more musical and teched out guitar wise then the last one... the biggest different between the record is going to be the vocals .. It will be different then what everyone probably thinks.
